  • Going to Hell for All the Right Reasons  (February 12, 2009)
We read the Apostles? Creed very casually, especially when it comes to this statement: "He descended into hell." Because we read it so casually, it does not comfort us; it does not move us; it does not strengthen us; and it does not provoke our thinking.

  • Husbands, Love Your Wives  (April 28, 2009)
From the sermon series ?Family Business? As we?ve been looking into this passage of Scripture on the biblical teaching of marriage and family, we?ve been using the analogy of a pair of scissors. We?ve seen that Paul is very fair and balanced in the way that he addresses the people involved in these relationships. For instance, he talks first to the wives, then to the husbands; he talks to the children, and then he talks to the parents.
  • It?s About Time  (March 5, 2008)
Anyone who knows me knows I have a hard time managing my time. No, I don?t have a hard time. I just don?t do it. It?s not that I don?t have all the tools I?m supposed to have. I?ve been to all the workshops. I have all the gadgets. It?s just that I?m a spur-of-the-moment kind of guy. If I?m doing something and even when I like what I?m doing, if I get a call from you and I like what you?re doing more, then I?m going to go do what you?re doing. Then I?ll get back to what I was doing. I don?t ever understand how much time something will take. So I over-commit, thinking, ?Sure, I can do that. It won?t take that long.? It always takes a lot longer than I think it will. So when somebody says to me, ?Can you come speak at this?? I answer, ?Yeah, I?d love to do that,? and it takes a lot of time to get ready to speak and speak well. So I end up being over-committed and frustrated because I?m trying go get too much done.
  • Thankfulness in Everything? (Philippians 4:4-9)  (November 24, 2008)
The most important attitude that we will ever nurture, that we will ever exhibit, is the attitude of thanksgiving. I am more convinced of that every day. The attitude that makes the difference is an attitude of being thankful, of being grateful.
  • Why Preaching Matters  (February 11, 2008)
The bigger the church gets the more important the pulpit becomes because it is the rudder of the ship. Where else do you get an hour of undivided attention with all these people on a weekly basis? Most pastors do not understand the power of preaching. But even more important than that is they don't understand the purpose of preaching. I?ve read more than 500 books on preaching, and as I've read them, the vast majority does not really understand that preaching is about transformation, not information.

  • The Christmas Story: Born for a Purpose  (December 1, 2006)
Luke 2:1-12 As we study the events and details surrounding Jesus’ birth, we realize that there is a great deal of suggestion found in the elements of His birth scene. For example, the fact that there was no room for them in the inn suggests that “He came unto His own, and His own r
